The book begins with the 1st Marine Division landing at Inchon in September 1950. The Marines quickly pushed north, capturing Seoul and driving the North Korean army back to the Yalu River. However, in November 1950, the Chinese army entered the war, and the Marines found themselves surrounded at the Chosin Reservoir.
The Marines at the Reservoir recounts the desperate fighting that followed. The Marines were outnumbered and outgunned, and the weather was brutal. But the Marines refused to give up. They fought their way out of the reservoir, inflicting heavy casualties on the Chinese army.
The Battle of Chosin Reservoir was a major victory for the Marines. It showed that the Marines could fight and win against any enemy, no matter the odds. The Marines at the Reservoir is a testament to the courage, determination, and fighting spirit of the Marines.
The book is written by Robert Leckie, a Marine veteran of World War II. Leckie's writing is clear and concise, and he brings the battle to life with vivid detail. The Marines at the Reservoir is a must-read for anyone interested in the Korean War or military history.
